Stunning news, guys.
It looks like San Diego State’s long, storied tenure as a proud member institution of the Big East/West conferences has come to an end. It’s just so hard not to get misty when I think of all the amazing memories we’ve had in these two leagues.
I’m sure you have your own, but here’s my top 5:
- That time we all speculated on the size of the upcoming TV deal (totes more than $10 million).
- That time Rick Pitino was a douche to us because he is Rick Pitino.
- That time we were all “Let Boise in” and the Big West was like “OK, fine whatever.”
- That time Mike Aresco added Tulane for some reason.
- ???
Oh man, good times.
But it looks like it’s now time move up in the world and join a conference with real growth and revenue potential — the Mountain West. I look forward to learning more about our new league member institutions and proud traditions in the coming weeks and months. Should be exciting! Perhaps they’ll welcome us in by putting our name in lights on a WYDOT traffic hazard sign! Dare I dream?
But for now, I’m more melancholy than anything. We had a great run in the Big East/West, and parting ways is tough. Farewell, old friends.
